Electric Trains For Children Part 1
The first thing you should do is be involved. Enjoy the model train set with your children. Don't just expect them to know what to do straight away. This is also a good way to bond with your child. Electric model trains are safe, so you don't need to monitor them for that, but they are also sophisticated and will need some explaining on how they work.
You need to think about the size and space you have available as well. If you don't have much space, don't buy a larger scale model train set, there is no point. Get a smaller scale train. Just because something is popular or said to be popular, does not mean its right for you. Your child will get the most enjoyment out of setting the track how he or she wants it.
This brings me to my next point. Try and understand the difference between scales. There are plenty of articles on this site that deal with all aspects of model train scaling. Read over this entire site to learn more. Model trains come in all different scales and you really don't want to get the wrong type for your spacing.
There is nothing imaginative about an oval track, so don't think that is all your child needs, it is not. They will lose interest very quickly, so make sure that you buy a set that has more then just an oval track.
Most train sets don't come with a lot of track, so buy more. Buy more then you think you will need. This really helps with the imagination of your child. They can build any sort of track they want in any shape if they have the extra track to use. It can get a bit expensive, but you don't have to buy a lot of track to start with. You can keep adding.
