History Of Model Steam Trains

While this site is more about the electric train and the models that came with it, I would be remiss not to talk about steam trains and the model steam trains that followed. Steam trains were of course the first form of mechanical transport introduced to the United States of America. Steam trains came after the civil war.

Steam trains were of course powered by the coal that they used. Soon however the electric train came into use and the steam train went out of fashion. Steams trains are noisier, harder to run and can not go as fast, but people still loved these creatures and wanted to own a piece of this history themselves and this is where model steam trains come into play.

People were very sad to see the steam train run out of business, so they started creating small replicas or models of them. Collectors would spend countless hours making sure the model steam train looked exactly like it's bigger brother.

The old classic steam train is very stylish and pretty to look at, thats probably why it has such a cult following to this day. This is replicated in the models that were created.

Model steam training can be a very expensive hobby how ever. Much more expensive then its cousin the electric train. Not a lot of shops sell parts for model steam trains either so finding what you are after is much harder, but makes it more thrilling when everything does come together.
